Review

Alpecin Caffeine C1 shampoo hit our stores in the UK a few years back. If you believe the marketing claims Dr Wolff Research claims its patented “hair energizer” strengthens weakened hair roots thus preventing hair loss.

As a late twenty something, struggling to battle the progression of a receding hair line (damn my family genetics!) I thought this is definitely worth a review.

Does Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo Work?

In short: we think so.

Basically before we decided to review Alpecin shampoo I constantly had hair falling out in the sink. 2 days/washes after using Alpecin for the first time the hairs in the sink reduced to just one or two in number. Now after 6 months of use I can honestly say I forgotten when I noticed my hair falling out. Good times.

The fastest growing men’s shampoo in the UK

The bottle is fairly cool, doesn’t cheese you off by falling over in the shower. The shampoo itself is blue and has a mild chemical smell, which is to be expected.

After using you do notice that your hair has slightly more “grip” which is consistent with the claims of the manufacturer. Basically they don’t add any conditioning agents.

How does Alpecin C1 work?

Well this fancy diagram says it all.

How Alpecin Shampoo Works

Caffeine gets to work on your hair roots

What Alpecin are trying to say here is that through their research they have found that shampoo is the best way to deliver active ingredients to the root of your hair. What good is an active ingredient in this case caffeine if it doesn’t reach the target area – they have a point.

When shampooing your hair the caffeine travels down the hair shafts into the roots, even after you have washed it out and dried your hair. Caffeine has been scientifically proven to slow down hereditary hair loss.

The caffeine contained in Alpecin C1 energises the roots. This combats a chemical called DHT that weakens the roots depriving them of energy. Injecting caffeine into your hair follicles re-energises them promoting healthy root function.

Do you apply Alpecin like a normal shampoo?

Pretty much, but leave it on for 2 minutes (or slightly longer as I do) so the caffeine absorbs into your scalp.

Where to buy Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo?

There are sites like Lloyds Pharmacy that offer the product slightly cheaper than Amazon but you have to spend over a certain amount for delivery. Delivery from Amazon is free. This is THE best value offer I have found. If you can find better post in the comments.
